Situation

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) sought to create a co-innovation platform to foster collaboration between governments and partners in designing social protection programmes across Africa and Asia. The goal: build a user-owned, sustainable system that supports inclusive and scalable innovation.

Assignment

Proportion was selected to research, design, prototype, and launch the platform—drawing from its decentralised model and deep regional expertise. The mandate extended from understanding current collaboration mechanisms to co-developing a viable, co-owned digital ecosystem.

Approach

Design research was conducted across Nigeria, Kenya, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, India, Pakistan, and Indonesia to map current practices and pain points. Proportion co-created with users to define platform features that support planning, listening, ideation, and prototyping. A working prototype was tested for functionality and long-term ownership.

Result

Validated prototypes and a shared platform vision laid the groundwork for launch in 2025. GAIN has continued its partnership with Proportion Global to build the co-innovation and position it as a the go-to co-innovation platform to be used by clients and projects. GAIN: “Proportion Global brought deep expertise in human-centered design and local stakeholder engagement, helping GAIN build a practical, user-driven co-innovation platform. Their on-the-ground presence and strategic insight consistently exceeded expectations, positioning them not just as implementers, but as trusted thought partners throughout the process.”
