Usability testing of Online Learning Management System for Learning Facilitators in Maiduguri, Nigeria.
01 Situation
In crisis-affected Maiduguri, learning facilitators face systemic barriers to delivering quality education, including limited digital literacy and fragmented access to training tools. A customized LMS was introduced to bridge this gap, yet early usability revealed friction in navigation, comprehension, and task completion.
02 Assignment
Conduct human-centered usability testing to assess whether facilitators could independently navigate the LMS, complete key tasks, and engage with learning content without external support.
03 Approach
A decentralized research team conducted 15 in-person, think-aloud usability sessions across three iterative rounds. Insights were rapidly translated into design changes—simplifying language (“report” to “results”), reducing cognitive overload (removing multiple modules), and improving learning flow (clear quiz prompts and consistent terminology). Continuous feedback loops ensured local context shaped every iteration.
04 Result
Task success rates increased to 100% across all key flows by round three. Facilitators demonstrated improved confidence, reduced confusion, and faster task completion. The LMS evolved into an intuitive, context-aligned tool—validating that small, human-centered design shifts can unlock meaningful access to learning in complex environments.
