Research and Design Sprint in Nigeria:How might we get more women into digital jobs?

01  Situation

Across Nigeria, five digital job providers faced a shared challenge: despite growing opportunities, young women were not applying, enrolling, or transitioning into roles. Field research uncovered barriers across the journey, including unclear expectations, affordability constraints, and low trust in program value .

02  Assignment

Commissioned by the Challenge Fund For Youth Employment (CFYE), the mandate was to generate actionable insights and support five companies to design solutions that attract, retain, and transition more young women into digital jobs.

03  Approach

Decentralised field research was conducted across all five companies, grounding insights in lived experiences of young women. Findings were synthesised into key opportunity areas and shared back with partners. A five-day design sprint then brought all companies together, enabling parallel ideation with moments of cross-learning and inspiration. Teams developed and tested low-fidelity solutions with users, iterating rapidly, and translated outcomes into clear pitch decks outlining solutions, sustainability models, and next steps.

04  Result

The process aligned five companies around user-driven innovation, accelerated solution development, and built internal buy-in. Each organisation left with validated concepts and a clear pathway to increase female participation in digital employment.
