01 Situation
In underserved communities in Kaduna, gaps in teacher capacity were directly affecting student learning outcomes. Many teachers had limited access to structured professional development, particularly in foundational literacy, numeracy, and inclusive teaching practices. These challenges were compounded by limited resources, large class sizes, and weak systems for ongoing teacher support.
02 Assignment
Conduct research to understand teacher challenges and identify practical, accessible ways to strengthen teaching capacity and classroom effectiveness in low-resource settings.
03 Approach
A human-centred research approach was used, combining direct engagement with schools, informal interviews, and observation of classroom practices. Insights from teachers and learning environments were used to shape simple, actionable support strategies focused on lesson planning, classroom management, and inclusive teaching. Particular emphasis was placed on solutions that were easy to adopt, context-relevant, and not dependent on advanced infrastructure.
04 Result
The initiative generated clear insight into the real challenges teachers face and highlighted the importance of structured, continuous support. It informed the development of practical and scalable approaches to teacher support that prioritised usability, relevance, and immediate classroom application, laying the groundwork for improved teaching effectiveness and stronger learning outcomes.
